Since its inception, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Project
OpenTelemetry has achieved industry-wide support, quickly achieving incubation
project status. It promises to improve the customer value of application
performance monitoring (APM) tools, by making observability open-source,
removing the need for proprietary APM agent technologies and forcing APM vendors
to compete at a user experience level: visualization, correlation, alerting and
AIOps features. In this session we will review the status of OpenTelemetry with
examples of mainframe observability in various APM tools. We will also take a
look at some stumbling blocks that APM vendors and users are facing and theorize
on the future of observability for enterprise organizations.
